Genesis on 720 Screens: The Unknowable_/_ (2021)
Mixed media
200 x 300 cm

In the context of globalization and the contemporary digital age, Genesis on 720 Screens: The Unknowable _/_ discusses the relationships among human awareness, science and technology, essence of self and virtual identity.

To imitate screen-swiping in our life and the circulation of screen-swiping, deleting and fingerprints-accumulating, the work composes of photos of 720 mobile phone screens, with fingerprints, scattered pictures from websites, pictures of the earth, screenshots, photography, frames and chains on them. Its background composition is inspired by Michelangelos fresco paintings of the scenes from the Book of Genesis (1508-1512) in the Sistine Chapel. From a micro perspective, I try to interpret the uneasiness of life in an age of globalization. I consider myself as a message processor that understands and presents, with the process of data collection as the major elements of the artwork, how we handle and confront potential threats from the outside world, and at the same time, answer a question, which is, how should we respond to the enormous world of messages that expands like the black hole along with the changes and mixture of various new modes?
