Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos was born in Lisbon in 1931. He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Lisbon and at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Bartolomeu dos Santos was mainly a printmaker and he has had over 100 solo shows in Europe and in The Far East. He taught Printmaking at Slade until 1996 and was nominated Emeritus Professor in Fine Art of the University of London, as well as Fellow of University College London. He was visiting professor at: University of Wisconsin, Madison; National College of Art in Lahore, Pakistan; Konstkollan Umea in Sweden; Visual Arts Academy, Macao. His artworks are represented in many public collections: British Museum, London; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; among many others.

Other highlights from his public art are the interventions in engraved stone for the Entrecampos Station of Metropolitano de Lisboa (1991), for the Nihombashi Station of Tokyo Metropolitan (1993) and for the Macao Museum (1997).

Produced by Ratton, Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos did the tile interventions for the Reboleira Station of the Metropolitano de Lisboa, the Pragal Railway Station and the Mural 25 Abril in Grândola.

Bartolomeu dos Santos lived and worked between London, Sintra and Tavira.
