As the Co-Artistic Director cum Executive Director of Zuni Icosahedron, Mathias Woo works as a scriptwriter, director, producer, curator as well as multimedia stage designer. Woo’s works construct aesthetics in theatre through strong visual images and toured in cities around the world such as Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Tokyo, Berlin, Brussels, Krakow and Milan. Woo is renowned for incorporating multimedia into theatre creation, his works explore subjects as wide range as literature, history, current political affairs, architecture and religion. Woo’s productions include “Hua-Yen Sutra”, “1587, A Year of No Significance”, “Eighteen Springs”, “East Wing West Wing” Series; Kunqu opera “Tang Xianzhu’s Dream on Dreams”, “A Tale of The Forbidden City”; multimedia architectural and musical theatre series “The Life and Times of Louis I. Kahn” and “Looking for Mies” have pioneered Hong Kong theatres in this area. In 2009, Woo initiated and curated the “Architecture is Art Festival”, the first of its kind themed on architecture in Hong Kong, which showed levels of knowledge, aesthetic methods and brought about critical thinking and discussions, in order to explore various artistic possibilities in architecture. Since 2017, Woo curated and designed the “Z Innovation Lab” that focused on integrating the latest stage technology and innovative ideas.
