Leandro Erlich

Year of Birth: 1973
Country: Argentina

Leandro Erlich was born in Argentina in 1973 and now works and lives in both Buenos Aires and Montevideo. "Disorientation", "ambiguity" and "confusion of perception" are the feelings evoked by the artist's works. Starting from the assumption that reality and appearance merge with each other, the artist creates numerous landmarks with uncertain borders. Over the past twenty years, his work has been exhibited around the world, including his most recent major solo exhibitions at the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum in Beijing, China (2019), 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Japan (2020), and Museum Voorlinden (2020), among others. He has been invited to many major contemporary art biennials, notably: the 27th São Paulo Art Biennial in 2004; the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005, among others. His works are also included in many private and public collections, including the Tate Modern in London, Centre Pompidou in Paris, and 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan. His major awards include: 2017 Roy R. Neuberger Prize; 2001 Joan Mitchell Foundation awards in New York, USA.; Mitchell Arts Fund awards in New York, USA; 1998 Eliza Award; Core Program of Museum awards of the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, USA, among others.
