Vila Nova de Cerveira Pavilion: The Metphysics of Luck and the Science of Misfortune

Considering the theme of Art Macao, the curators have made a selection of works from the collection where, in an objective, subjective or symbolic way, the binomials luck & misfortune, spirituality & science, order & chaos, conflict & compatibility, solitude & communion, intention & chance intersect.

The curators chose 27 artworks, referencing the "27 Club", the list of visual artists, musicians and actors who died at the age of 27, making this a milestone of fatefulness, but also of immortality. Representing over 40 years of contemporary artistic creation, different languages and technologies, including video, painting, sculpture and installation, the exhibition privileges the profusion of elements, the poetics of colour, complex compositions and details, the dimension of archive and memory of the human body and reading of architectures given by the superposition of planes. This intersection of proposals invites contemplation and thought on the theme this Art Macao edition, aligning itself with a transversal and global vision of religious traditions, superstitions and the contradiction that finds an echo in the broad field of sciences. It was therefore relevant to think of a group of artists of different nationalities and generations, each one representing a view of the world.
