The assessment process of “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021 - Selected Works by Local Artists”, jointly organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Macao Government Tourism Office and various entities, was successfully completed on 4 June. After a rigorous review by a commission formed by 11 members from different sectors, a total of 12 pieces/sets of works were selected, to be exhibited at the Former Municipal Cattle Stable in August.
The exhibition “Selected Works by Local Artists” aims to promote the visual artistic creation in Macao and encourage innovation, hoping to put a link between local artists and the international stage of art. The list of 12 pieces/sets of selected works is as follows: Mother by Cheong I Kuan, Paradise Series by Fok Hoi Seng, Stray Birds by Ho Weng Chi, Scattered by Ieong Man Pan, Alegoria da Globalização by João Miguel Barros, League of Journeyers to the East by Konstantin Bessmertny, It Doesn’t Matter to Me by Kun Wang Tou, Isolation by Leong Lam Po, China Landscape, No.2021 by Mak Kuong Weng, It’s Been a Hard Year by Sit Ka Kit, Evolution by Wong Soi Lon and Genesis on 720 Screens: The Unknowable by Wong Weng Io.
The Selection Committee is composed by the Chief Curator and the representatives of the organizing entities of “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021”, the representatives of the participating hotels and integrated resorts in “Art Macao”, and the representatives of local artists. Representatives who participated in the evaluation of works on the above-mentioned day included (some participated online), and who jointly selected the above-mentioned 12 pieces/sets of works included: the Representative and Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man; the Representative and Deputy Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Hoi Io Meng; the Chief Curator of “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2021”, Qiu Zhijie; the Representative and Director of Galaxy Entertainment Group, Philip Cheng; the Representative, Executive Vice-President, and Chief Creative and Brand Officer of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, Frederic Winckler; the Representative and Vice President of Arts & Culture of MGM, Cristina Kuok; the Representative and Senior Vice President of Special Projects, Product Strategy and Development of Sands China Ltd., Julian Chow; the Representative, Managing Director of SJM RESORTS, LIMITED, Angela Leong On Kei; the Representative, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of Wynn Macau, Limited, Linda Chih-Ling Chen; the Representative, Executive Director and Deputy General Manager of Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited, Song Xiaodong; and the representative of local artists and President of the Macau Artist Society, Lok Hei.
The works that were not selected will be returned on 26 and 27 June at the original submission place, that is the Macao Museum of Art from 9am to 1pm and from 2pm to 5pm.
