Jinan Pavilion at Art Macao opens at the Handover Gifts Museum of Macao
showcasing the charms of Jinan in the New Era

The City Pavilion of “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2025”, “Jinan Pavilion: The River is Surging” is open from today until 30 November at the Handover Gifts Museum of Macao. The exhibition features works by various Jinan artists, showcasing the profound heritage of Yellow River cilvilization and the contemporary vitality of Jinan, the “City of Springs”. 

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the Jinan Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and co-ordinated by the Jinan Art Museum (Jinan Painting Academy), the “Jinan Pavilion: The River is Surging” is part of the City Pavilion section of Art Macao 2025. The opening ceremony was held on 17 October at the Handover Gifts Museum of Macao, and was officiated by the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Leong Wai Man; the Director of the Jinan Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Ma Li; the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Arts of the Macau University of Science and Technology, Prof. Zhang Zhiqing; the Executive Vice President and Secretary-General of the General Association of San Tong Associations (Macao), Zhang Xihua; the Director of the Jinan Art Museum (Jinan Painting Academy), Xu Lin; and the General Manager of Jinan Radio & Television Station and Shandong Tianxia Quancheng Media Co., Ltd., Zhang Benyi.

The ceremony was attended by over a hundred guests, including the Director of the External Liaison Division of the Jinan Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Hou Jing; the Deputy Director of the Jinan Art Museum (Jinan Painting Academy), Zhang Hui; the Head of the Division of Visual Art of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Van Pou Lon, as well as representatives from various sectors in Macao, young students and art enthusiasts.

Curated meticulously over five months by the Jinan Art Museum (Jinan Painting Academy), the exhibition is themed “The River is Surging”, “Welcome to Jinan”. Highlights include the majestic long scroll The River is Surging and the immersive digital artwork Autumn Colours on the Que and Hua Mountains, as well as a variety of contemporary artistic works in diverse styles and rich content. These works interpret the artistic expression and contemporary significance of the Jinan Pavilion's themes, presenting the artistic charm of Jinan and the vibrant spirit of this “City of Springs” in the new era. The exhibition is held daily from 10am to 7pm (last admission at 6:30pm) including on public holidays, but is closed on Mondays. Admission is free.

“Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2025” is organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, and co-organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office, Galaxy Entertainment Group, Melco Resorts & Entertainment, MGM, Sands China Ltd., SJM Resorts, S.A. and Wynn Resorts Macau. The planning of the section “City Pavilion” is closely aligned with the Macao SAR Government's policies, aiming to enhance the strategic positioning of the “cultural exchange centre between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries”, and focuses on the development layout of “One Base”. Among the City Pavilions, the Pavilion of Portugal, “Pavilion of Vila Franca de Xira: The Reinvention of the Real – Portuguese Contemporary Art in the Museum of Neo-Realism Collection”, is currently open to the public at the Tap Seac Gallery until 16 November.
