Triple Portrait of Fernando Pessoa Sitting at the Coffee Table (2005)
Silkscreen print
88.5 x 62.2 cm

The panels for the Alto dos Moinhos Subway Station, in Lisbon, from 1983 – 1984. For this work in tile, Júlio Pomar sketched hundreds of drawings, with several humans and animal figures, among which stand Fernando Pessoa, inscribed in blue on the tiles surface. The image of Fernando Pessoa also occupied him in other visual media, and this biennial presents some of the several renderings that Júlio Pomar made of that iconic figure of Portuguese culture.

In addition to the works presented, which are studies or previous approaches to works on tile panels set in the public space, and therefore immovable from the place to which they belong, images and documents are also shown that allow us to understand some of these public works and to have a broader and deeper knowledge of the work of this artist.

In several aspects Júlio Pomar made up and built the history of Portuguese art more than 70 years of his own art practice, passing through different styles and influences, cultures and geographies, integrating and transforming them with him.
