“The role of the artist is to create the cosmos for man,” Francis said. Within these four works these words are made evident: a churning eddy and explosion of colour harmonized through form and shape. The viewer is confronted with gardens of colour. The turbulence of colour speaks to Abstract Expressionism and yet, the balance of white canvas is a nod to a Japanese sensibility and the power of the negative space. A synthesis of inspirations and influences, these paintings envelopes us into a cosmos of Francis’s making.
