This artwork shows a mother-of-pearl shell with an inlaid chip containing fragments of information such as poems, diaries, and unspoken words that I have recorded. The artist attempts to let time and life envelope layer upon layer these abstract existential melancholies that have been perceived, like the formation of mother-of-pearl. The work focuses on the crystallised organic matters in nature, exploring how creatures integrate with technology and are thrown into an immeasurable world, only to drift on a suspension where they cannot possibly be defined. The work resembles a living tear, though I continue producing pearls every night, for I want to keep shedding tears and shine brightly.

Wang Xun is inspired by the poetic helplessness of human beings: Faced with the postmodern dilemma that "everything solid has been reduced to ashes", humans break away from the huge net, in which they entangled, being unable to rely on each other. Without defined standards to follow, homeless, impotent souls, may still be able to flow out from the confines of self-existence, and softly touch others.
