The artwork features a Chinoiserie-style folding screen, with its panels forming a diptych using traditional and digital media to depict Macao as a burgeoning trading port in the 16th and 17th century. Macao is one of the earliest ports in China opened to foreign trade since the Ming dynasty. From the former Maritime Silk Road to the modern One Belt One Road initiative, Macao has always been pivotal in the commercial and cultural exchange between China and Europe. Its history bears testament to its unique role as “One Center, One Platform, One Base” in China’s national policy. The artwork pays tribute to the city’s heritage, innovation and vision for the future. It serves as a proud display of Macao’s roots, as well as its strong and inimitable stance in the modern time.
