The city skylines of many cities of the 19th and 20th centuries of developed countries were dominated by church and cathedral spires that serve as prominent landmarks. Visible from afar, such religious structures not only add to the beauty of the city and serve as gathering places for the community, but also serve as constant reminder of the city's religious heritage and serve as a collective symbolic call to the gods or heaven above. Now, cities boast impressive skylines dominated by towering skyscrapers that reach even further towards the sky and serving as symbols of economic growth and prosperity, housing offices, hotels, and luxury apartments. Our urban skylines are truly our cathedrals of the 21st century. The exhibition will be revolving around this theme by exploring the urban environment of London and its shifting relationship with heritage, traditions, technology, symbolism and spirituality.
