This project probes into the current developments of small-scale agriculture in China and the United Kingdom. It employs video installations and micro-narrative techniques to directly unfold scenes from daily life and work on small farms in the two regions and explores the symbiotic relationship between land and humanity through relevant documents and public activities, building an emotional connection between land and the Macao audience. Public activities are regularly held in collaboration with Macao businesses during the exhibition period, giving the audience an opportunity to learn about and taste certain agricultural products that appear in the videos, most of which are available in the Macao market. From a bottom-up perspective, the project reveals the unique value of small-scale farming economy in ecological balance, community resilience and economic stability, challenges the preconception of “urban centrism”, and re-examines the constructive role of rural practices in building a sustainable future. By connecting land, food and human senses, this exhibition attempts to establish a new dialogue between the urban audience and the agricultural landscapes that nourish them, while also providing visual validation for the cultural value and survival wisdom required for future urban development amid the current mounting uncertainties in globalisation.
