Community Co-Creation and Mutual-Aid Project of San Mei On
Jason Ho (Australia)
Workshop, mixed media, community art
Dimensions variable
2025

Themed around ‘co-creation’ and ‘mutual aid’, and featuring mapping workshops and continual local artistic initiatives, this project aims to awaken the fading sense of collectivism among residents of the San Mei On neighbourhood and enhance their participation in its public affairs. It encourages reflection on how residents can better integrate and cooperate, with the view of constructing and revitalizing public spaces and relationships of residents in the San Mei On neighbourhood and promoting immigrant integration and mutual aid. The project will include a two-week workshop and a four-month artist residency programme in which participants and neighbourhood residents will respond to specific issues with creative collaborations, and the outcomes will be incorporated into "Art Macao 2025".

For the latest information, please follow "Jason Ho's Mapping Workshop" wechat official account.

During the artist residency, the invited artists will conduct art workshops, exhibitions, performances and community-engaged activities inside the building, and regularly display their work to the public.

Due to the uncertain opening dates of events, and the fact that San Mei On Building is a private residence, visitors must make appointments in advance.

Exhibition: The Art of Care
“In this sense, this isn't a joint exhibition by a group of artists, but rather an exhibition created by a group of artists for the people of San Mei On. More precisely, it's an exhibition about community caregiver Sister Hong, Feng Jiaoxiong, or rather, all those living in San Mei On who are known as "Sister Hong". But instead of saying this is an exhibition, it is better to say it is an invitation - I would like to invite everyone to come to San Mei On with your own perspectives and learn the power of seeing.
Only when community care truly enters the public sightline can we find a way and method to start social reconstruction.” - Excerpt from the supplementary thoughts written by Initiator Jason Ho for the exhibition

Duration: 25/09/2025–26/10/2025
Opening time: open to the public from 10am to 6pm every Saturday and Sunday

 第一芬蘭松館

Initiator/Artist: Wang Ying
The artist has composed the Song of the Nameless using AI music tools based on in-depth interviews with the neighbours who shared their life stories and emotional memories. This song reflects the lives of ordinary people in Macao, explores the complex social relationships and collective memories embedded in high-density living spaces, and serves as an infectious audio-visual archive of everyday life in Macao.
