“Hey, what brings you here?” This seemingly casual greeting is actually a human question about our own situation: “Who are we? Why do we come here at this time with certain genes already determined before birth?”
A quarter of the 21st century has passed, and humanity is facing an increasingly chaotic and divisive reality. Are all the ordeals before us predestined? Four Macao artists have chosen cultural DNA, which is known for its resilience, as the starting point for their creative concepts as they embark on a cross-dimensional experiment under the theme “Genetic Duration”, responding to the philosophical theme posed by this year’s Art Macao.
Genes are invisible blueprints etched in the foundation of life, carrying both the code of destiny and the survival strategies in human evolution. The information accumulated throughout the long span of civilizations is like the specific cultural DNA that constantly reorganize and mutate in the folds of time and space, ultimately condensing into the coordinates and support of our existence.
