Taking the unfulfilled European journey of Wu Li (style name Yushan, art name Mojing Daoren, 1632-1718) - an early Qing dynasty painter and Catholic convert - as its spiritual starting point, this exhibition is housed in a standalone building on Macao's historically rich Rua dos Curtidores (former site of Liang Shui Jing Village, Wu Li's first residence in Macao). Through three conceptual frameworks - "The Gaze of Time", "Deconstruction and Reconstruction" and "Empowerment of Emotion" - it combines Macao's unique cultural resilience with Zygmunt Bauman's (1925-2017) concept of "Liquid Modernity" to explore how contemporary shifts in spiritual beliefs enable Macao to generate new creative transformations from cultural interstices.
The exhibition brings together cross-disciplinary creators from Macao and mainland China to revitalize the old urban community through installations, video works and performance art. By utilizing the architectural space itself, it creates a cultural dialogue platform that serves as a gathering place for artistic spirits, reshaping Macao's cultural memory.
