Renaissance (2023)
Technical pen drawing on paper, ink on wooden cabinet and paper, LED light
Dimensions variable

The Renaissance is a splendid era of human exploration and truth-seeking. The artwork illustrates the Flat Earth and Spherical Earth theories in the Age of Discovery, adorned with elements from imaginations. The Flat Earth and Spherical Earth theories symbolize two worldviews from different eras: science and superstition, authority and truth-seeking, human-orientation and god-orientation. They have both accumulated and shaped the history of today’s world, exemplifying the evolution of human civilization.

The theory of the Spherical Earth, confirmed during the Renaissance and the Age of Discovery, highlights the subtle relationship between the two eras. Knowledge, wealth, religion, and desires have driven humans to fill in the blanks on the map. In this era, Macao has also shifted from the border to the center, and ships set sail on the Pearl River for trade. As various cultures meet and merge here, dialogues between the world of scientific exploration and the world of legend and fantasy take place, exploring and integrating diversities in different perspectives.
