Invitational Exhibition by Local Artists

“Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2023” is taking place from July to October this year, under the theme “The Statistics of Fortune”. Taking “the correlation between science and religion” as the main thread, Art Macao showcases the city’s unique culture and art. The Invitational Exhibition by Local Artists is an important event of this edition of Art Macao. Six local artists, namely Konstantin Bessmertny, Ung Vai Meng, Lampo Leong, Chan Hin Io, Lai Sut Weng and Eric Fok Hoi Seng, are invited to produce new creations on the theme.

Departing from the same theme, the exhibits present varied aspects and reflections. Through a combination of media ranging from ink painting to video, some focus on how science and religion worked together to build today’s civilization; others unveil the prospering trade between China and the West, still others focus on human aspirations. Some question the risks of technological development brought about by today’s over-reliance on rationality, while some explore the complexity of urban ecological structures, and others ponder on the issues of climate change.

Exploring the interplay between science and religion and speculating how these two forces influence and shape our world today, each artist’s work has a unique expression and depth. These works constitute a rich panoply of artistic expression, fully revealing the diversity of art made in Macao.
